ELEPHANT SUPPORT

Meet our elephants

We support six elephants across four generations. You can read their stories below. If you can't visit in person, join our global network of donors. We pledge that 100% of all sponsorship donations go directly toward elephant care. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

Too Meh

Too Meh, our oldest elephant, was born in the 60s. She spent her younger years in the logging industry until logging was banned in 1989. With little forest and food available, she was taken to tourist camps, where she spent two decades giving rides with a howdah—an iron saddle that often causes back problems in elephants. Now, she is free to roam the forest, forage, and spend time with her daughter and grandsons.

Mae Doom

Mae Doom, born in 1995, is Too Meh’s daughter and Dodo’s aunt. Before coming home, she lived and worked in elephant camps, separated from her family. Now, at Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary, she has been reunited with her mother and nephew and enjoys the freedom to learn from them and roam the forest as she pleases.

Boon Rott

Boon Rott, born in 2006, is a male elephant, which spent his early years in tourist camps, giving rides and performing tricks. At birth, he suffered from malnutrition because his mother couldn’t produce enough milk. Though she had given birth multiple times, Boon Rott was the first of her offspring to survive, thanks to her care and the dedication of their mahouts. His name, meaning “The Survivor” in Thai, reflects his resilience. Now, he roams freely in the forest, choosing when and how to interact.

Dodo

Dodo is another male elephant born in 2006. He spent a decade in and out of tourist camps, giving rides. Known for his unpredictable nature, he spent much of his life in confinement before arriving at Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary in September 2018, after his owner sought our help. Since then, he has become calm and content, enjoying the freedom to roam the forest and socialize on his terms. He is the nephew of Mae Doom, and grandson of Too Meh.

Sri Prai

Sri Prai is a female elephant, which was born in 2010 into the logging industry and later rescued, only to be taken into tourist camps. When COVID-19 shut down tourism in Thailand, many elephants, including Sri Prai, returned to their owners' home villages. Over two years, she formed a strong bond with our herd. When tourism resumed, her owner asked us to take her in permanently, not wanting her to return to work. Since then, Sri Prai has thrived, spending her days socializing with as many elephants as possible and learning to forage.

Junior

Junior, born in June 2023, is the youngest member of our herd! As the son of Sri Prai and Dodo, he is one of the rare elephants in Asia to be born and raised in the forest. He spends his days following his mother, exploring the hills, and learning from the other elephants about life in the wild and the best foods to forage.
