One of amazing things about working on the Sanctuary is there is never an un-welcoming face in the village, where all the work done for the Sanctuary is completed. The locals and the staff work harmoniously together; a relationship that grows fonder as the days go by because of the unique living situation. Each volunteer or intern in the Sanctuary stay with one of the eleven families that have volunteered to open their homes to them, even if just for a night. This is done through a local member of the village who work with the staff, and appoints each new member of the Sanctuary to a particular family.

Despite the language barrier between the host families and volunteers, the friendships between them never fade. Each member joining the sanctuary are taught a few useful phrases to communicate with the very patient host families who are ever eager to teach you a few things, and also to learn a few English phrases from you too. It’s a great learning experience, and the effort is greatly appreciated.

Not only are the volunteers welcomed into the individual family homes, but also the entire village community. They participate actively in celebrations, and work and play with the kids and animals in the village regularly. This very diverse community is a great example of how with a common dream, people from drastically different backgrounds can come together in perfect harmony.
