Today was grass planting day! Grass planting is needed in order to be sure the elephants have enough food during the dry season next year. After our breakfast, we took off towards the fields. We begun our hike at 8 am and after a long walk through thick mud and over slippery hills, we made it to the grass field. The Mahouts were already at work, digging ditches for the grass planting, when we arrived.
After a short moment to catch our breath, we started planting. Everyone grabbed a pile of grass and started planting it. This job was easier said than done because after a long time of raining and the fact that the field was on a small slope, the plantation was very slippery. After dividing all the grass over the man made ditches we had to cover up the grass roots and needed to make sure all was well in order for the grass to grow.
The above job was done within 2 hours, so around 11 am we went back to the village, back over the slippery and muddy roads. Once we arrived back at base, everybody had their lunch and took some relaxing time. Time to read a book, get some rest or walk around. At 3 pm we went with small group to the nursery to play with the kids. After some educational singing and dancing the kids needed to colour paper frogs, which we needed to cut out and glue together. The kids were really enjoying themselves and seemed to be very proud on there self-made paper frogs!
Tonight is movie night! As we need to democratically vote, we are curious which movie it’s going to be.
